What is the structure of a 9-digit MICR code?

  • First 3 Digits (City Code): Aligned with the first 3 digits of the city's postal PIN code (e.g. 700 for Kolkata, 400 for Mumbai).
  • Middle 3 Digits (Bank Code): Unique numeric code assigned by RBI to each bank (e.g. 002 for SBI, 024 for HDFC).
  • Last 3 Digits (Branch Code): Specific branch identification code for cheque clearing.
